The Block 2022‘s Omar Slaimankhel and Osman “Oz” Malik reportedly blew their budget while filming the show; however, they managed to minimise their debt with some cheeky tactics.
Their co-stars Sharon Johal and Ankur Dogra were recently outed for allegedly spending $80,000 over their allocated funds — something that the Neighbours actress has claimed to be blown out of proportion.
However, a source has unveiled that House Five also “went way over their budget” but were able to salvage their debt by making “under-the-table deals”.
“The boys went way over their budget, but they made under-the-table deals with their trades,” the insider dished in episode 223 of the So Dramatic! podcast.
“[They] had people working on the house for free all season, so they weren’t as in the red as Sharon and Ankur.”
This follows news that Omar and Oz also utilised a stylist during the competition — something that’s a big no-no on The Block.
However, the source noted that “the other houses went over [budget] too”.
“They all ended up rioting and demanding more money from the network because they say it’s impossible to finish,” they said. “Not all houses get completed let’s just say that.” YIKES!
A Former The Block Contestant Defended 2022 Cast Over Budget Blowouts
As reported in episode 221 of the So Dramatic! podcast, an ex-The Block star came to the defence of the Blockheads after Sharon and Ankur copped criticism en masse for their expenditure.
“Talk to any Block contestant over the years, can guarantee this is the norm,” an ex-star confessed. “Channel Nine never provides enough money.
“They just rely on sponsors.”
The former Blockhead even admitted that they “had invoices hitting [their] email for months post-build”. YIKES!
“I just keep flicking to Channel Nine, so I can see how they were eventually paid.”
