AFL legend David Zaharakis is trading in his jersey for something a little more lightweight as he heads to Samoa to film Australian Survivor: Heroes v Villains 2022.

So Dramatic! previously disclosed that alongside several former Survivor faves, several household personalities are slated to appear in the next iteration of the survival series.

Now, we can exclusively reveal that former Essendon best-and-fairest winner David is joining the hot lineup of contestants.

As revealed in episode 206 of the So Dramatic! podcast, an insider dished that the 32-year-old “signed on for the show”.

“He is currently playing for Bundoora but took the second half of the AFL season off to film the show,” they said.

“He’s hoping the gig will lead to more TV roles for him in the future.”

The insider also added that “filming for Survivor begins this week” and damn, we can’t wait for it to hit our screens!

News of David’s latest gig comes after the Herald Sun reported his foray into reality TV. However, the report stated that the footy beau couldn’t disclose “where he’s going or what program he’ll appear on”.

The footballer first debuted in the big leagues at 19 years old, in round two of the 2009 competition.

The Real Housewives of Melbourne star Anjali Rao will also join David on Australian Survivor 2022, as revealed by So Dramatic!.

According to one source, the 49-year-old was a “last minute” addition to the cast and was only given “five weeks’ notice” prior to filming that she’d appear.

According to the insider, production was “set on casting a villainous and ruthless entertainment reporter” after Sydney Morning Herald journo Andrew Hornery was blasted for trying to “out” actress Rebel Wilson.

As for the returnee stars, 2016 winner Kristie Bennett, hunky 2019 hopeful Shaun Hampson, as well as 2022 import Nina Twine and her co-star, Jordie Hansen are also competing.

In addition, 2021 icon George Mladenov and two-time star Shonee Fairfax (2018/2020) will also appear.
