Married at First Sight’s Kate Laidlaw Is Sick of People Telling Her to “Freeze Her Eggs”

MAFS Kate

Just like the other Married at First Sight Australia 2022 contestants, Kate Laidlaw’s audition tape had her opening up about her “embarrassing” dating history.

The 39-year-old confessed that she was taking on the experiment in a bid to find The One.

However, her MAFS marriage to Matt Ridley has been sabotaged by some chicken twisties and characterised by a sh*ton of awkward moments.

During her MAFS audition, Kate revealed that she has “never had a boyfriend and never had a proper relationship,” adding: “it is quite embarrassing to admit at this age.”

Given that she is 39-years-young and single as a pringle (or, even better, a chicken twistie), Kate lamented that everyone wants to offer her advice.

“Everyone keeps asking if I’m gonna have kids and I’m like *rolls eyes*”, the nutritionist told whichever producer was on the other end of the Zoom call.

“If one more person tells me I should freeze my eggs…” she sighed.

Friendly reminder: not your uterus, not your business. Capiche?

Of getting married and having children, Kate described it as, “the impossible dream”.

“I look at women who are married and have kids and I’m like ‘wow that’s so amazing, I can’t even get someone to stick around for three months,” she said. “I don’t want to go my whole life without experiencing basically what we are put here for and I want what everyone else has got, to feel love, I want to say I love you to somebody and I want them to say it back to me.”

Kate Laidlaw Opens Up About Her Tragic Dating History In Her MAFS Audition Tape

Expressing the same sentiments on the show, the bride revealed her dating life is not where she wants it to be and explained it as “a lot of rejection, a lot of sadness, a lot of tears and a lot of feeling like I’m not enough.”

“Maybe I’m not good enough or not pretty enough to be anyone’s girlfriend,” she expressed.

All poor Kate wanted out of MAFS was a dude who wouldn’t put her down. Wow, the bar is really on the floor.

The bride revealed the ways in which her rejection-tainted dating history has damaged her self confidence.

“The last couple of guys I dated have completely closed me down. When you do get rejected you start to see yourself as someone who’s not worthy,” Kate sighed.

She also admitted that at this point when it comes to dating, she is prone to “self-sabotaging”.

“On the third date, I’m like ‘oh here we go, they’re going to tell me to go away now.'” This is honestly pretty heartbreaking.

Could that “self-sabotaging” have something to do with her crumbling marriage to Matt, perhaps? Or maybe the chicken twistie incident was the nail in the coffin for that one…

Why Is Kate Laidlaw on MAFS?

After a string of painful dating experiences, Kate has lost hope in love.

In a last-ditch effort, she turned to the experiment, hoping that the MAFS experts could find her perfect match. Spoiler alert: they did NOT.

In Kate’s MAFS audition tape, the lonesome bride shared her reasons for signing up for the show:

“I don’t know what to do anymore, I don’t know where to go. And I don’t want to make those same mistakes because I don’t want to lay in bed at night crying because someone has rejected me or told me I’m not good enough”.

She added that she asked herself: “Can I do this dating thing again?” before concluding that she “wants love.”

Somewhat poetically, she mused: “I hope that my tragic love life has just led me here”. Ah yes, led her straight down the aisle to a man with chicken twistie breath and zero ability to read a room.
