Following her cringe-fest of a wedding, we have a hunch Kate Laidlaw may regret signing up for Married at First Sight Australia 2022. However, it turns out that this year wasn’t the first season she has applied for!

The 38-year-old has had a wild (read: awkward) ride during the experiment thus far.

She and her groom Matt Ridley have less chemistry than a pair of tea towels. As such, her bid to find The One isn’t exactly working out the way she’d planned.

However, at some point in time, Kate obviously trusted the MAFS experts, because she has actually applied for the show before.

As revealed by host Megan Pustetto in episode 155 of the So Dramatic! podcast, Kate told friends of her plans to sign her life away to MAFS three years ago.

Can you imagine Kate on season six with Cyrell Paule and Martha Kalifatidis? We would love to have seen her get in on the wine-slinging action!

Kate Laidlaw MAFS

In 2019 a friend tagged Kate and her sister Bec in a Facebook casting call for “adult identical twins”, suggesting the pair apply.

Kate responded by saying: “Thanks, but we are saving ourselves for MAFS“.

The friend replied that she and Bec were “way too good for that show” and oh, the irony…

The bride did quip, however, that she would “never say never” to the experiment.

Looks like Kate really manifested her appearance on MAFS, but we do have a sneaking suspicion that it might not have turned out how she had hoped, though.

Why Is Kate Laidlaw on Married at First Sight 2022?

Kate has struggled with love and romance her whole life.

The clinical nutritionist’s dating history has been tainted by rejection and put-downs which have left her feeling hopeless, unworthy and insecure.

Ah, yet another sensitive bride for MAFS producers to prey on…

The MAFS 2022 intruder is terrified of being in the same, loveless situation in ten years time, so is taking on the experiment in hopes of finding “a man who shows her the affection she craves”. Welp, Matt certainly shows her affection, alright.

For Kate, “the idea of marriage has only ever felt like an impossible fantasy.”

Let’s see — after her wedding to Matt, we know the following:

  1. Marriage = possible
  2. Fantasy = a chicken twistie-tinged nightmare…
  3. Kate = wishing producers had let her own the show three years ago when Michael Brunelli was there

Given that Kate has applied for MAFS before, it is evident that she is at least willing to give marriage a good crack.

Here’s hoping she doesn’t give up on Matt and his twistie breath just yet.
