Network Ten has continued churning out brand new hits with the first season of The Real Love Boat Australia 2022 – but what is the new dating series actually about?

The reality show is (VERY) loosely based on the 1970s hit The Love Boat, but this new version looks like it will bring together the best of our fave modern reality series, including Love Island, mixed with a few Amazing Race-esque stop-offs along the way!

Host (and Celebrity Apprentice Australia 2022 runner-up) Darren McMullen will be joined by Below Deck‘s Hannah Ferrier, Studio 10’s Daniel Doody and Princess Cruises’ Captain Paolo Arrigo as they set sail across the Med.

“My first time on a ship, and what better way to kick this off than cruising around the Mediterranean in summer,” Darren said.

“This is one of those experiences that you really have to pinch yourself and can’t believe your luck. I feel incredibly blessed, and I’m looking forward to seeing the romance blossom for our singles.”

Rumoured to replace The Bachelor Australia on the network (hello, same days/same time as previous seasons), The Real Love Boat contestants will test the waters of their potential new beau by going on water-themed dates and completing compatibility challenges.

Who Are the Contestants on Board The Real Love Boat Australia 2022?

21 contestants are setting sail on board the luxurious vessel.

The cast members’ official titles are “contributors”, making it sound like the lovebirds are more involved with running the ship than we initially expected…

The “contributors” include twin brothers Harley and Jesse Anderson, 23; 39-year-old wellbeing coach Ben Milne, 25-year-old Queensland distillery manager Daniel Goodburn, and 30-year-old Social Enterprise Manager Jay Bonnell. We swear. those job titles aren’t just made up!

Meanwhile, event coordinator Katie Langford, 25, is on the hunt for a Hemsworth-lookalike and 28-year-old Naomi Tibbles‘ dream date is “a cruise on a super yacht eating yummy seafood”. We reckon you might get to tick that one off your list, love!

Sydney-based business owner Jay and 31-year-old wedding dressmaker Sally Geach both have four-year-old daughters from respective previous relationships.

We’ve already seen the two get up close and personal during a sensual couples’ massage, so we feel they may just be one of the first to hook up!

But Google digital strategist and part-time cosplayer Tyler Grayling, 23, might not be so lucky. She admitted that she is “just a lot for people to get used to”.

We’re sure they’ll all be glad to be trapped on a boat in the middle of the ocean with her then!

What is the Prize for Winning The Real Love Boat 2022?

After a month on the ocean, only one duo will have the chance to make it to the final port – but have fun trying to work out who will make it to the end, with plenty of couple-swapping already promised in the trailer. We’re so ready!

The winners will be awarded a once-in-a-lifetime trip – technically twice in a lifetime since they just finished cruising across the Med.

Honestly, it’s a prize just being there!
