A sales agent from The Block has revealed that “untoward” dealings on the hit renovation show jeopardised house sales on auction day.

ICYMI: The 18th season finale was a doozy, with one house snatched up in a record-breaking sale while others struggled to hit the reserve price.

At the time of writing, Dylan Adams and Jenny Heath‘s property is yet to be sold, and now, thanks to a longtime affiliate of The Block, we have some ideas as to why.

As reported in episode 237 of the So Dramatic! podcast, the source was a sales agent on the show for “four seasons”.

“The reality is that people pay money for location, not for these ‘basic’ Block properties,” they said.

“If you are purchasing a lifestyle home in the Macedon Ranges, you want a lot more than an average house in an average location.”

The insider continued: “You want premium quality, not a Freedom kitchen. You want privacy and exclusivity. Not a property that has been designed and finished by amateurs.” Ouch!

The industry knowledge comes after another property expert revealed Dylan and Jenny’s Gisborne home would sell for far less than market value.

Sales agent spills on ‘behind the scenes’ buyers antics on The Block

Fans of The Block will know the latest season has been shrouded in controversy surrounding the legitimacy of buyers.

So Dramatic!‘s source has since confirmed that dodgy dealings are at play on the show.

“I have worked as a sales agent for Channel 9 and The Block multiple times across the inner city and I can say for certain that there is something untoward going on behind the scenes when it comes to the ‘buyers’,” they said.

According to the insider, buyers were disguised as buyers’ advocates “so they didn’t look like fools with no one to bid for”.

They would appear to be “representing clients [and] buyers but paying well over market value”.

“We always dealt with more sticky beaks than people genuinely looking to buy,” they added. “But of course [the houses] always sold on the day!”

We guess it really is all smoke and mirrors!
