The Block 2024 has been rocked by a huge last-minute change thanks to a series of “challenges” behind the scenes.
In 2023, fans of the hit renovation show could attend a public Open Day, where they could check out the completed houses and rub shoulders with the cast.
However, speaking to TV Tonight, executive producer Julian Cress confirmed that the event will not occur this year.
“Phillip Island has one bridge in and out. It’s not a place where you can do a big public event without an immense amount of planning and logistics,” he explained.
The Block will be hosting a ‘smaller’ Open Day event on Phillip Island
Whilst it’s impossible for the show to host a “full Open Day”, Julian revealed that The Block is hosting a “smaller event” for their Phillip Island “friends” to thank them for their support.
“But we can’t open it up to people coming from around the country because they just wouldn’t get on and off the island,” he added. Logistically, it would be very challenging.”
The Block also canned the public Open Day in Victoria’s Gisborne in 2022 for similar reasons, whilst the event was also cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID restrictions.
