Married at First Sight Australia 2022‘s Daniel Holmes has warned gymgoers to be safe after he underwent back surgery for a prolonged injury.

Daniel, who made waves as an intruder groom during last year’s marriage experiment, hasn’t been shy about this passion for the gym and boxing (remember when he reamed Harrison Boon in the ring this year?!).

Now, he has shared the importance of correct gym practice, revealing he “ended up in the emergency department three separate times” after ignoring damage to his spine.

Taking to Instagram on November 30, Daniel shared he had an “L4-L5 herniated disc with nerve compression surgery”.

“An old injury done in the gym that I should have had surgery on years ago,” he confessed, alongside a photo of him lying in a hospital bed. “Instead I did what dudes do best and just said she’ll be right!

“The past couple months it’s gotten so bad that there’s been no ignoring it though.”

The TV groom added that it’s “been hell” and that he “can’t even explain the pain at times”.

“But very glad it’s done, it’s almost surreal to know that I won’t be in pain anymore, so happy,” Daniel penned.

“Take care in the gym, please warm up before doing heavy lifting,” he implored. “These types of injuries in the weight room are far too common.”

Elsewhere, some followers shared their own experiences with similar back injuries.

“I’ve got an L4/L5 gym injury too, been getting cortisol spinal injections the last 12 months,” one fan wrote, to which Daniel revealed the “spine injection didn’t work for [him] unfortunately”.

Another said they had their “discs sorted several years ago”.

“Can’t lift heavy stuff anymore but better than being in pain all the time,” they said,

“Anything’s better than the pain,” Daniel confessed. “Good to hear [you’re] doing well.”
