The Block‘s Foreman Dan Reilly has weighed in on why some of the 2023 teams failed to make much cash on auction day.
During the November 4 auctions, Steph and Gian Ottavio won the competition after they took home a record-breaking $1.75 million from the $5 million sale of their house.
Eliza and Liberty Paschke also made over $1 million in profit. Meanwhile, Leah and Ash Milton‘s property was passed in and is yet to sell at the time of writing.
Dan, who rose to fame as a contestant on The Block 2012 with his now-wife Dani Wales, has since told 9Entertainment that the “lopsided” auction results were due to the differing property sizes.
“We haven’t seen a house like [Steph and Gian’s] in a long time on The Block,” Dan said. “It just flowed, it was high end, the detailing was there.
“Gian spent a lot of time with the quality of the painting. There was just a feeling about that house. When you walked in, you just wanted it.”
Dan added that he “always” knew the “sheer size of Houses Four and Five… would be hard to beat”.
“I just think back to when the contestants actually chose the houses, Houses Four and Five were the last to be chosen,” he concluded.
“It really just goes to show that if you want to win The Block, you’ve really just got to do your research, know the area and know what people there want.”
The Block 2024 could feature contestants from 2023
Dan’s two cents on The Block 2023 auctions come after a production insider revealed some of this year’s Blockheads could appear in the next season.
“There’s still chatter about bringing back some celebrated contestants for the 20th season,” one source dished.
“But applications are still open for newbies. So the rumour is it will be half newbies and half returnees.” Ooh!
