A former The Block producer has revealed the real competition between the 2023 cast has only just begun following the history-making auctions.

The November 5 finale saw Steph and Gian Ottavio make a record-breaking $1.65 million profit. They also pocketed an extra $100,000 for winning the show after their house sold for $5 million thanks to Adrian Portelli.

While it was a scramble for the Blockheads to rally bidders for auction day, the producer claims that’s not where the competition stops.

Talking to Yahoo! Lifestyle, they said now is the time when viewers will see the contestants attempt to make a career out of their 15 minutes of The Block fame.

“Some contestants who have won money will be readjusting their financial situation for the better, and others will be working out just how much money was lost during their time away from their real jobs,” they explained.

“When you’ve had your whole lives splashed across the media for a few months it is very easy to get used to the routine of hair and makeup being looked after and your schedule full of social events.”

The producer added: “For most of the contestants, that quickly stops and their active brains fill with the burning question of what is next.”

Some of The Block 2023 contestants have already signed with talent managers

According to the industry insider, the key to making your fame long-running is appearing on another show.

“Getting your next TV gig shows TV producers you have more to your flex of getting on just one reality show,” they said. “The Hundred with Andy Lee is Channel Nine’s best opportunity to prove you have what it takes to get a manager — if you haven’t already.

“So Channel Nine’s internal talent manager is currently juggling 2023 villain Kristy [Beams] and comedy queen Eliza [Paschke], who both are obvious choices.”

The outer reports that Eliza, her sister Liberty [Paschke] and Leah [Milton] have all signed with different talent agents. However, time will tell how beneficial this will be.

“If you sign with the wrong agent who doesn’t understand your brand you might just be on their books for twelve months with very little to show for it,” the source continues.

2023 cast could appear on The Block 2024

Casting is underway for The Block 2024, which will take place on Victoria’s Phillip Island.

However, don’t expect a full crop of new faces.

Per Yahoo! Lifestyle, the 2024 lineup will be a mix of new contestants and returning stars.

“There is still some chatter about bringing back some celebrated contestants for the 20th season but applications are still open for newbies,” an insider confessed.

“So the rumour is it will be half newbies and half returnees.”

The question is, will it be faves or villains returning?
