The Block 2023’s Steph and Gian Ottavio have clapped back at fans who don’t agree with their “controversial” plan to win.

The 27-year-old childhood sweethearts dominated auction day, taking home $1.65 million in profit plus an additional $100,000 for winning the show.

So, what’s the secret to success? Apparently, it was securing an A-List auctioneer external to their agency as soon as they learned they would be on The Block.

Some viewers have since expressed that their game plan was unfair. However, Steph and Gian “disagree”.

“From very early on you are allowed to engage with your agent,” Steph told Daily Mail. “Auctioneers usually come with agencies but we went and got our own one.

“I don’t understand why that would be controversial.”

Gian Ottavio doubles down on The Block plan

Gian backed his wife up, explaining that The Block producers had no issues with their auction tactic.

“Wouldn’t that mean looking at property photos before going on the show is controversial because you are getting a head start on design? I disagree,” he said.

“At the end of the day The Block is a competition for who will sell their house for the most money at auction and how do you win? You need to have the A-team working with you.”

The duo previously confessed it was a “no-brainer” to enlist the same real estate agency that helped Omar Slaimankhel and Oz Said win the show last year.

Plus, instead of returning to Sydney after their reno, the couple stayed in Melbourne for three months to network and meet buyers face-to-face.

Gotta respect the hustle!
