The Block 2023 producers went to extreme lengths to keep the November 4 auction results under wraps until they aired the following day.

Every year, there are at least 24 hours between the official auctions and when they’re broadcast on TV for fans to indulge in.

This also means there are at least 24 hours for the results and eventual winner to leak online.

This year, Hampton East locals have been spilling behind-the-scenes tea about the show on various Facebook groups and honestly, we’ve been eating it UP.

Ahead of auction day, producers also sent Charming Street residents a letter detailing plans for the big day, including clarification that the auctions weren’t open to the public.

Taking to a social media group titled “2023 Charming St ‘The Block'”, one local revealed a trick Nine used to keep auction results on the DL.

“One of the things [Channel Nine] is now doing is moving a tradie’s ute to the house being auctioned and leaving it running so people on the street can’t hear the bids!” they penned.

The Block fans have mixed feelings about producers’ privacy tactics

In the comment section, fans of The Block shared mixed feelings about how producers kept the auction results a secret.

“If they don’t want people to hear anything maybe don’t have the auctions in the houses,” one user penned.

“Maybe have them where they go each Sunday for the room reveals.”

“Ridiculous,” a second viewer wrote. “Shut the windows and doors… Wouldn’t that be easier?”

A third was concerned about the running ute’s impact on “global warming”.

Another expressed: “Instead of leaving it running, why don’t they just have music on or something? Better for the environment that way.”

However, some agreed that the tactic was “clever”.

“Would’ve been a good time to mow the lawn,” one person joked.

Whatever the trick, it seemed to work well, as most of us were none the wiser that Steph and Gian Ottavio won until all was revealed on Sunday night.
