The Block 2023‘s Steph Ottavio has spoken out about being “targeted” by her co-stars amid ongoing bullying, stating she didn’t realise how bad things were until she’d watched the show.

Steph had been “bullied” by Kristy Beams and Leah Milton the entire season, with viewers even calling for the controversial contestants to be taken off the show.

During her appearance on the Maz & Matty Show, Steph admitted that she didn’t realise “how big of a target” she had on her back during filming.

“I take [my] friends at face value. What you say [to my face] is what you mean. I didn’t understand that someone would be plotting something behind my back,” the 27-year-old told hosts Maz Compton and Matt Baseley.

The architect said she “didn’t know” why she was being targeted. However, she assumed it was because her cast mates were “threatened” by her.

“I needed to focus my whole energy on the house. I wasn’t going to focus on plotting or anything like that,” she added.

Gian Ottavio says he’s never seen so much drama on The Block

Steph’s hubby Gian Ottavio chimed in, stating that he’d never seen such toxic behaviour on The Block, which he thought was supposed to be about “camaraderie and helping one another finish rooms”.

Host Maz agreed, sharing that she’d only been tuning in for the Sunday night room reveals because there was too much drama throughout the rest of the week.

“It’s not something that we’d anticipated,” Steph replied, stating that The Block is supposed to be a renovation show.

“At the same time, it’s a documentary of what happened. And unfortunately, it’s a representation of some aspects of society. So not showing it would be a disservice to us, because that was our reality,” she finished.

The Block’s Steph Ottavio says she’s ‘not fazed’ by Kristy Beams

Whilst on-air, Steph watched back a clip where Kristy accused her of sharing her two-team prize with Liberty and Eliza Paschke because she didn’t think they’d ever win a room reveal.

“At this point, I’m not even fazed by some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth. I don’t feel like she’s that credible anyway at this point,” Steph said.

“[Kristy] had a lot to say about us winning let alone who we selected and I think she would have a lot to say about it if we did anything, to be honest.”

This comes after judge Darren Palmer called out “toxic behaviour” on the latest season of The Block.
