The Bachelor Australia alum Alisha Aitken-Radburn has spilled the tea about a little-known tactic used by production behind the scenes of reality shows.

Alisha first appeared in the Bachie universe on Nick “Honey Badger” Cummins‘ season in 2018. She then starred in consecutive seasons of Bachelor In Paradise, where she met her now-husband, Glenn Smith, in 2020.

She’s since released a memoir called The Villain Edit, which documents her experience on both reality TV and in politics.

Having experienced and “investigated” reality TV “tactics”, Alisha has now revealed that there is a job within production that many people don’t know about.

Alisha Aitken-Radburn reveals what a ‘transcriber’ is in the TV industry

“I only learned it very recently, but when you’re on the show and when you’re filming, there is a role in production called a ‘transcriber’,” she told Love Island‘s Taku Chimwaza and Married at First Sight‘s Selina Chhaur on the Back To Reality podcast.

“So, basically, someone is typing everything that you’re saying, all the conversations that people are [having].”

The 30-year-old said this job essentially helps producers “frankenbite” down the track by searching specific phrases they can use to create a storyline.

ICYMI: “Frankenbite” is a phrase to describe a line that has been edited together from multiple pieces of dialogue. Which, in turn, can make or break a contestant’s eventual edit.

It’s lowkey scary that this is the effort they go to to make someone look bad!

Alisha, who was part of a “villain” trio on The Bachelor 2018, isn’t the only person to speak out against producer ploys.

MAFSBronte Schofield and fellow alum Olivia Frazer have described themselves as victims of a “villain edit” in the past.

And, with MAFS 2024 and another season of The Bachelors on the horizon, we have a feeling these portrayals are just gonna be dredged back up.
