We’ve found out why MasterChef Australia has removed its ICONIC theme song this season and the reason is not what we expected.
Since MasterChef premiered in 2009, many fans have bopped along to Katy Perry‘s banger Hot n Cold during the opening credits.
In fact, the theme song has become so synonymous with the show that Katy herself appeared as a guest judge in 2020. And no, that wasn’t a fever dream.
However, this year, for the first time ever, MasterChef decided to forego it’s intro altogether leaving many fans confused.
What happened to the MasterChef Australia theme song?
One source told Yahoo Lifestyle that Channel 10 removed the theme song because the licensing fees became too expensive.
TBH, this is kinda surprising, as the cooking show has a spare $250k to dish out to their winners every season.
As it turns out, Hot n Cold was only the theme song for the show’s Australian audience. In other countries, the MasterChef Australia intro tune is a random untitled pop song. Interesting…
Many MasterChef fans have since taken to social media to share their thoughts about the omission of the iconic theme song. And you could say their reactions have been very Hot n Cold.
Like us, lots of fans were sad to learn that the MasterChef intro had been removed.
“It feels weird without Katy Perry’s Hot n Cold as the opening tune,” one fan wrote to social media, whilst another added: “I miss Katy Perry and contestants throwing food and using hibachis as an intro”.
Meanwhile, other viewers were relieved that the theme song had been binned.
One Twitter user wrote: “Is anyone else super happy they stopped using that sh*t Katy Perry song for the Masterchef intro?”
“I’m so glad we don’t have to hear that dreadful Katy Perry song blasting out four times a week anymore,” another added. Savage!
