MasterChef Australia star Poh Ling Yeow has addressed a much-speculated fan theory about how contestants are able to cook dishes on the spot.

Viewers of the cooking competition have long wondered how the cooks throw together recipes after having just mere seconds to decide what they’re making. It’s hard enough trying to think of something to cook for dinner!

Now, Poh, who was the runner-up in the inaugural season of MasterChef in 2009, has finally weighed in on whether competitors memorise recipes or if they’re allowed notes while on set.

As it turns out, they have a sh*t-ton of recipes locked away in their brains in hopes one will come in handy on filming day.

Taking to her Instagram Story, Poh shared a photo of the diary she kept during her second stint on MasterChef 2021.

“A page from a notebook of ingredient lists I’d committed to memory for MasterChef Back to Win,” the 49-year-old said.

“This is what we did with every spare minute.”

This certainly isn’t the first time we’ve copped an inside look at the machine that is MasterChef Australia.

The MasterChef judges are eating cold food when fans watch them taste test

Have you ever wondered whether the food is cold by the time the judges taste the dishes? We have!

According to Season Four star Alice Zaslavsky, it’s “the first thing” people ask her about the show. But yes, the judges are “100 per cent” eating cold food by the time we see them tasting it on screen.

“The judges would walk around and taste the food as soon as the challenge was over, while everything was still hot,” she told Domain

Alice continued: “When your name was called, you’d walk up and put your dish on the bench, then they’d show that overhead shot.

“The judges put a fork in, eat a mouthful of the cold gloop for the cameras and pretend it’s the first time they’ve tasted it.”

Mmmm, yummy!
