Behind-the-scenes photos showing the living arrangements of the MasterChef Australia: Secrets and Surprises contestants have leaked and if you needed more proof the rental crisis exists, here it is.
The evidence in question was a series of film-like photos of the cast hanging out in a house which was actually shared by the show’s official Instagram account on May 22.
The series of snaps showed the cast members posing, joking and smiling together.
However, fans of the much-loved franchise took to the comments section of the post to criticise the contestant’s living quarters.
Many thought the conditions weren’t up to scratch for stars of a hit TV show and condemned the production company.
“TBH I think Endomol Shine (or whoever it is) has a nerve giving these contestants such dreadful accommodation! I can’t believe what I’m seeing,” one user wrote.
A second person sarcastically said: “Looks like they really lashed out on luxe digs this year.”
“Doesn’t look like a particularly inviting place to rest up and relax!” another added, whilst a fourth person said the accommodation “looks like cabins at a caravan park.” Ouch.
Another fan pondered: “What happened to the fancy house contestants used to live in?”
Whilst somebody else wrote that the photos “look like [they were] taken in 1990 and printed on film.” Savage.
Where do the MasterChef Australia cast live during filming?
For a show that dishes out a whopping $250k cash prize, we had a feeling this isn’t actually where the contestants would be living and turns out our hunch was right.
On May 26, the official MasterChef Australia Instagram account shared another series of photos from the same location. However this time, clarified the snaps were taken in the show’s backstage area.
“Green room shenanigans from Week 3,” they captioned it.
So where does the cast live during filming?
Last year, Refinery29 Australia revealed that the MasterChef contestants lived in serviced apartments and this year is no different.
In a MasterChef Australia 2023 Facebook fan group, a series of snaps were shared of the cast posing inside what looks to be serviced apartments. Phew!
