Long-time The Bachelor host Osher Gunsberg was in the running to helm I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! but he was deemed too controversial for the role.
If a more than middle-aged white man is considered outspoken, what chance do we have of getting more diverse representation on TV?
Granted, the 49-year-old has been known to speak out on topics.
Over the years he’s opened up about mental health and his struggles with alcoholism. He’s also a vegan. And it’s practically a rite of passage for vegans to tell everyone they’re vegan.
According to Daily Mail Australia, Network Ten bosses weren’t willing to risk a potential PR disaster. Surely it couldn’t get any worse actual disaster that is The Bachelor franchise’s ratings.
“They felt he might say something that would blow up in their faces and create a PR nightmare,” the insider told the outlet.
‘It’s disappointing because Osher would have been a fantastic addition to the cast.”
A hosting position on I’m A Celebrity is up for grabs. Dr Chris Brown is jumping ship to rival network Channel Seven after the season wraps.
He’s been with Ten for 15 years and co-hosted I’m A Celebrity alongside Julia Morris since the show first aired.
According to the source, Osher put his name forward to fill the position and he would “absolutely do it” for a six-figure sum.

The TV personality flew to South Africa to make a cameo on the show while delivering 2016 The Bachelor contestant Keira Maguire as an intruder in 2017.
“I watch every season of this show,” Osher told News Corp Australia at the time.
Osher even admitted he’d be up for being a contestant on I’m A Celebrity. But we’re not sure his perfectly coiffed hair could take it.
“I think I would be all right on this show if I could get away with not putting dead things in my mouth,” he added.
“I have never yet through my career had to put anything in my mouth to further my opportunities for work but it is still early days, you never know.”
And six years on, he’s still avoided it.
