Melanie “Mel B” Brown‘s The Masked Singer Australia co-star Dave “Hughesy” Hughes has confirmed the Spice Girl is engaged to her boyfriend, Rory McPhee.
ICYMI: Rumours of the 47-year-old’s pending nuptials hit headlines after sources told The Sun that she accepted a proposal from the Leeds hairdresser on October 19.
Mel is yet to publicly comment on the engagement; however, as revealed in the October 25 broadcast of 2Day FM’s Hughesy, Ed & Erin breakfast show, Hughesy has got to the bottom of the speculation.
Chatting with his co-hosts, the comedian explained that he sent Mel a text congratulating her on the supposed engagement.
“She got back to me not long after, and her reply was… ‘xxx’,” he said. “I put it to you now; that is absolute confirmation that they are engaged!”
The radio trio then put it to their listeners, of which 90 per cent of their callers agreed that yes, Mel B is TOTES headed for the aisle!
It comes just a day after Hughesy admitted on the same radio show that he had no clue his co-star was dating Rory, 36, despite meeting him while they were filming The Masked Singer Australia 2022.
“I didn’t even know they were a couple,” he confessed. “He’s her hairdresser, and I thought it was a professional relationship.”
He said he would “try and mentor Mel B when she got angry”, telling her to “live in the moment”.
“Rory would agree with me. I like him.”

According to sources close to the couple, Rory, who Mel has been dating since 2018, is from her hometown of Leeds, UK.
“He’s known her for years,” an insider revealed. “He’s the absolute opposite of so many of the guys she had relationships with.
“He is a really normal, down-to-earth guy with good morals who has worked incredibly hard to build his own business and a family business. He’s not flash or interested in the limelight.”
They added that Rory “comes from a loving family” and is best mates with his fiancée’s cousin, Christian Cooke.
As for the engagement story, the hairdresser reportedly got down on one knee at luxury country hotel Cliveden House in Berks, presenting the pop star with a £100,000 (approx. $178,713 AUD) pear-shaped, champagne-coloured diamond ring. Talk about a whopper!
According to friends, the mum of three “burst into tears” when her bae proposed.
“She said ‘yes’ straight away,” one pal dished. “But it was incredibly emotional because, after everything she has been through, it was a really big moment for her.”
Mel was previously married to Stephen Belafonte from 2007 to 2017, with the singer filing for divorce alongside accusations of emotional and physical abuse.
Prior to her marriage to the film producer, The Circle guest star wed dancer Jimmy Gulzar in 1998 before their eventual split in 2000.
She has also been linked to Max Beesley, Christine Crokos and Eddie Murphy, with whom she shares a daughter.
