Comedian Dave Hughes has revealed that he often clashes with his new The Masked Singer Australia co-star Mel “B” Brown after she started swearing at him from their first week working together.
Appearing on The Sunday Project on July 10, Dave hinted that Mel B was just as terrifying as her Spice Girl persona “Scary Spice” suggested.
The icon herself has since hit back, telling 2Day FM’s Hughesy, Ed & Erin that Dave (who was literally in the phone convo with her) was being “creepy” on set while filming The Masked Singer Australia.
“Yes, he was being a bit creepy, a bit ‘starey’, and I thought ‘, what are you doing?’ So I did,” Mel B said on July 13.
“But I’ve got to know him since, and he’s got a beautiful wife and beautiful kids that also don’t want to spend that much time with him.”
Mel B also explained that she found out Dave recently had coffee in Bondi with The Bachelor’s Abbie Chatfield and Big Brother alum Chrissie Swan joking that he didn’t invite her.
Doesn’t seem like they’re gonna be best buds any time soon!
The Masked Singer Australia’s Dave Hughes Confirms Co-Judge Mel B Really Is Scary
On The Sunday Project, the larrikin shared that even in their first meeting for the show, Mel B told Dave to “beep off”. Dave couldn’t swear on commercial TV, but we’re gonna take a wild stab in the dark and assume she told him to f*ck off.
“We’re actually already filming, and it’s hectic! Absolutely hectic,” Dave told The Project panellists.
“I’ll tell you what, I know why Scary Spice is called Scary Spice. I love her, and she knows it, but me and her have a relationship going. She told me to beep off in our first meeting [sic].”
Dave explained that the two would often “clash” because of opposing ideas for the show, as they both had dominant personalities.

Dave also revealed that Mel didn’t understand why he would make fake guesses as a joke about who was under the mask.
“I keep guessing dead people on the show. She doesn’t understand that’s my thing. She just doesn’t understand,” Dave said, before adding she didn’t get when he pretended it could be A-list celebs either.
“When I guess Taylor Swift, she goes, ‘I know Taylor. She isn’t that tall’. I said, ‘You haven’t seen her for a few months – she might have shrunk’,” he recalled.
