The Block 2022‘s Omar Slaimankhel and Oz Malik‘s piano salesman has dished some damning tea that goes against House Five’s claims that their baby grand purchase was all above board.

The instrument was a point of contention for Living Room Week, especially with the boys nabbing the piano for $7,500 — despite its retail price being $36,000.

The show’s rules stipulate that contestants can’t purchase or accept items for less than 50 per cent of the retail price, and as such, host Scott Cam barred the duo from winning the room reveal. They were also docked one point per judge.

Omar and Oz then tried to argue that the piano was “old as”, allegedly being 14 years old and refurbished. And yeah, that’s not going to fly, boys!

While the September 26 episode was airing, the boys’ piano salesman slid into a fan group for The Block to clarify some details.

After a fan questioned the purchase, Wertheim Pianos’ John Martin confirmed that the baby grand was brand-spankin’ new.

“Yes, the piano is new,” he said. “I supplied this piano. It is a very special Wertheim Hi Brid [sic] acoustic grand piano with self-playing system.”

He described his elation in having one of his pianos featured on the show, adding that he “really enjoyed” working alongside Omar and Oz.

“They are sensational guys that bring excitement and enjoyment to The Block

Way before Living Room Week was even thought of; the salesmen shared that he’d supplied the Sydneysiders with their secret weapon.

In a since-deleted Facebook post, John said he’d attended an open day at the Gisborne property after selling Omar and Oz the instrument.

“The open day was fantastic. [It] Was great to see the support given to the contestants Omar and Ozzy [sic],” he wrote in a fan group for The Block.

“The Wertheim grand piano was sensational for that room. Who ever [sic] gets house 5 will be living the dream…”
