The Block Australia 2022 contestant Sarah-Jane Wilson was slammed by Twitter after she negatively described her competitors’ latest room reveal as “bipolar”.

The 30-year-old social worker described Sharon Johal and Ankur Dogra‘s house as having “bipolar” during the September 20 episode.

“This house has bipolar. You never know what you’re going to get depending on their mood,” Sarah-Jane said of the variously themed rooms.

Bipolar disorder can be defined as a condition where the person can experience intense mood swings ranging from depressive lows to manic highs, according to Reach Out.

Fans were shocked that somebody who professionally works in an allied-health field would so flippantly use medical terminology as a problematic joke.

The Block Editors Come Under Fire for Not Removing Sarah-Jane’s Problematic Comments

Other viewers were more concerned that The Block editors didn’t remove the audio, which made some believe the show was being performative in their support of causes focused on mental health and disabilities.

Sarah-Jane’s comment arose during the same episode in which the Blockheads worked on a side project to assist two neurodivergent and disabled friends to live more independently.

It also aired just after Sarah-Jane and her hubby Tom Calleja shared The Block’s post about trolling, which urged fans to report “personal attacks, negativity, racial abuse” and “harmful content”.

So Dramatic! has reached out to Sarah-Jane for comment. Nine has chosen not to comment.
