The Block Australia 2022 is turning out to be the most scandalous yet, with racism claims now being made against the show.

While we’ve already seen Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull‘s unceremonious exit, TWO cheating scandals, an unfair villain edit and unrest on set, this all pails in comparison to the serious allegations now being made.

As reported in episode 213 of the So Dramatic! podcast, the scandal begins with host Scott Cam calling some of the Blockheads “un-Australian”.

According to an on-set source, Scotty called particular contestants “un-Australian” at every opportunity he had.

Sharon [Johal] and Ankur [Dogra] and Omar [Slaimankhel] and Oz [Ozman Abu Malik] took offence to this, given they are Indian, Afghan and Lebanese.”

As we also exclusively reported, Omar and Oz are embroiled in their own cheating scandal.

Foreman Dan Reilly calls the pair dodgy due to under-the-table dealings.

While it’s clear that their behaviour is not above board — the connotation could be seen as racist as “there is a stigma around these nationalities that they can’t be trusted”.

“Dan called Omar and Oz ‘dodgy’ and accused them of cheating too, which again is playing into racial stereotypes that already exist in society,” the source added.

Sharon and Ankur and Omar and Oz Have Received Trolling Due to Their Race

So Dramatic!’s source believes that the way Sharon, Ankur, Omar, and Oz are being portrayed invites fans to troll the teams on social media.

“Sharon and Ankur and Omar and Oz have been receiving a lot of hate and vitriol from The Block’s audience saying that they don’t deserve to be on the show because they’re not ‘Aussie battlers’,” they said.

“There are huge racial undertones among people who watch the show and the Australian community in general and when you’re a person of colour, you already have to work double hard to win Australian audiences over.

“They are just looking for an excuse to hate on you.”

The Block’s Official Social Media Team Released a Statement

On September 11, a post shared on the official The Block Twitter page, reminded fans not to attack or troll the Blockheads personally.

“We are all part of The Block family, and we need to support each other,” the tweet read.

“Comments are welcome, but personal attacks, negativity, racial abuse and trolling will not be tolerated.”

However, fans were outraged and called for The Block’s showrunners to take responsibility for “creating these situations”.

So Dramatic! has reached out to Nine for comment.
