With filming for Married at First Sight Australia 2023 fast approaching, it seems producers are not just desperate for participants, but for celebrants to wed the unlucky-in-love individuals, too!

The controversial marriage experiment is nothing without the batsh*t-crazy weddings. However, as suspicions continue to mount about the brides and grooms being actors, what about the celebrants?

Turns out, they’re actually real officiants! Well, as real as it gets on a reality show, we guess.

As reported in episode 206 of the So Dramatic! podcast, a listener revealed that one of her friends was approached for the upcoming season.

“A family friend of mine is a wedding celebrant and they’ve been contacted to be on MAFS later this year,” they said. “Not as a contestant but as a celebrant for the weddings!”

Like many of us, the source said they “always thought they used paid actors to pretend to be celebrants”. Apparently not!

What’s more, is that they also stash some cash money for participating.

“They [the producers] said their budget for the celebrants’ time was $800 and that filming would commence in November this year.”

However, the source added that there was mention of filming happening in August, too, so could they just be casting celebrants for intruder weddings?

Producers Were Seeking International Participants for Married at First Sight 2023

While they’re on the hunt for some top-notch officiants, the producers recently put a call out for UK individuals to apply for the show, too.

One So Dramatic! spy slid into our DMs on June 29, with a screenshot from the official Married at First Sight Australia Facebook page that mused, “love knows no borders”.

“For the first time ever, MAFS is inviting British singles to take part in Australia’s biggest social experiment!” it read.

It continued by calling on “Brits living in the UK” who are “prepared to move across the globe for true love” to apply via the supplied link.

However, the post has since been removed from any and all official social channels. Perhaps MAFS Australia just isn’t the English folk’s cup of tea, either!
