The couple was on cloud nine after welcoming the ragdoll cat into their lives just three weeks ago.
In a joint statement, the duo addressed why they’d been “a little quiet” online in recent days.
“We have needed to look after ourselves following some devastating news,” they penned. “Unfortunately, it is with great sadness that we were forced to make a tough decision to put our little Gus down.
“This is a call we made as a team for the sake of his quality of life following some tragic medical complications.”
The Bachelor‘s Jimmy Nicholson and Holly Kingston Thank Fans for Their “Support and Kindness”
Unable to describe the “heartbreak” they’re experiencing after “losing [their] little man so soon”, the Bachie couple said it was much like “losing a family member”.
“We acknowledge that many are facing various struggles, however, we figured it was necessary to update you all as he has been a big part of our lives on here,” they continued, noting they were “shattered”.
“We were truly obsessed with him and will always treasure the special moments we shared together.”
Concluding the statement, Jimmy and Holly said they will be taking some more time offline to mourn.
“At this stage, we’d like to continue to grieve together and return when the time is right,” they penned. “Thank you for your support and kindness.”
Fans also grew fond of Gus in recent weeks after the couple shared several photos of him online.
However, they opted to keep his medical condition private.
