The Block has confirmed an air date for 2022, and fans will finally be able to find out what happened after the Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull debacle.
After months of delays, The Block is set to premiere on Sunday, August 7, 2022 on Channel 9 and 9Now.
It’s a season of firsts for the long-running renovation show, with the “city-slicker” contestants heading into regional Victoria.
This year, teams will be tasked with transforming five houses in Gisborne South, near the Macedon Ranges.
The regional location will be a major departure from past seasons, which have seen homes given a new lease on life in several Inner Melbourne suburbs such as St Kilda, Brighton and Elsternwick.
Why The Block‘s Air Date Was Delayed
The Block executive producer, Julian Cress revealed why The Block struggled to meet air date deadlines.
“We set ourselves an impossible task and whether we can achieve it or not remains to be seen,” he said, adding they had no way of pushing the deadline,” he told the Herald Sun in June.
Julian blamed the air date delays on a huge amount of unexpected setbacks in 2022, including a contestant getting COVID-19 and one team quitting just a few days into production.
Production also faced a shortage of tradesmen to complete the 2022 builds, which also delayed The Block’s air date.
Nine in Six, the construction company behind The Block, also issued a call out for help.
