The Block 2022 showrunners have disclosed that Channel Nine’s renovation mega-hit may not make it to air on time.

As excitement grows in anticipation of The Block‘s first-ever regional stint, the series’ executive producer, Julian Cress, has voiced his concern over the looming deadline.

“Am I feeling confident? Not really,” he told the Herald Sun on June 12, describing the situation as a “nail-biter right down to the last day”.

“We set ourselves an impossible task and whether we can achieve it or not remains to be seen,” he said, adding they had no way of pushing the deadline.

Why The Block Might Not Reach Its Production Deadline For The First Time Ever

Julian blamed the delays on a huge amount of unexpected setbacks in 2022, including a contestant getting COVID-19 and one team quitting just a few days into production.

Influencer Elle Ferguson and her fiancé Joel Patfull dropped out of filming The Block in April, after his mother fractured her neck, and also potentially injured her coccyx and wrist.

However, news.com.au reported just days after the shock announcement, that production had already found a new couple to replace Joel and Elle.

Production also faced a shortage of tradesmen to complete the 2022 builds, with Nine in Six, the construction company behind The Block, issuing a call out for help.

“We desperately need help completing the current series of The Block, Tree Change. Carpenters, Cladding Crews, Skilled labourers, Trade Assistants,” the company wrote on Instagram.

“Wages, Casual, Subbies we won’t discriminate. Immediate start, 5 Weeks to go Location Gisborne Victoria. Send us a message if you’re keen. [sic].”

The Block 2022 Marks the Series’ First-Ever Regional Season

For the first time in The Block‘s history, the famed reno show is being filmed regionally.

This year’s teams will be tasked with transforming five houses in Gisborne South, near the Macedon Ranges.

The regional location will be a major departure from past seasons, which have seen homes given a new lease on life in several Inner Melbourne suburbs such as St Kilda, Brighton and Elsternwick.
