Big Brother Australia has come a long way since its 2001 pilot and OG contestant Layla Subritzky reckons it has NOT changed for the better.

The 2012 housemate returned for the show’s 21st birthday celebration this year but was evicted after less than a week in the house.

Now, she has SLAMMED the Big Brother format – which was revamped after the franchise moved from Channel Nine to Seven – and roasted the mentality of the new generation of contenders.

Speaking to New Idea, Layla said she was ready to leave upon her recent eviction.

“It was just so different from my 2012 experience, so I was ready to call it a day being in the house,” she admitted.

“I think being around those types of people constantly is just so draining. It’s turned into such a game – it’s so, so different.”

She confessed that she felt as though she always had a target on her back because she was an OG and that the constant strategising of the new generation was a shock in comparison to the vibes of her original season.

“The biggest challenge for me was definitely readjusting to these new types of Housemates because I created such incredible relationships with my old Housemates back in 2012,” she explained.

“The old format was relying on the relationships [between Housemates] and that’s where all the fun happened. I think that was why it was so hard for me.”

Of the newbies, she said: ” A couple of the Housemates just had really bad energy. I just picked up on it straight away.”

Layla Still Formed Strong Relationships In the Big Brother House – But With OGs

Despite feeling let down by the mentality of the new contestants, Layla says that she enjoyed catching up with her fellow Big Brother royals.

“I really enjoyed my time with [Anthony] Drew and Trevor [Butler],” she said. The trio had been banished to Big Brother’s sewers together prior to entering the house.

The 34-year-old said that she and Drew became quite close, despite their relationship not being shown on camera.

“We were following each other around the house like lost dogs because all the guys wanted to get rid of him [Drew] and all the girls just wanted to get rid of me.” she jokes.

Yikes! Can this please be a sign for BB to bring back the old format?
