Big Brother Australia is back for 2022, this time under the fans versus favourite format.
To celebrate the 21st birthday of the beloved show – which is often heralded as the OG of Aussie reality TV – a host of memorable past contestants are back, competing alongside 11 newbies for a shot at the Big Brother victory.
21 housemates will live together in the house throughout the season and – as always – are cut off from the outside world and watched round the clock by the prying eyes of Big Brother.
Sonia Kruger, who reprises her role as the show’s host, reckons: “The royalty will have a target on their backs from the minute they show up. They will naturally be viewed as massive threats by the newbies.”
Further, producers have conjured up a ton of new challenges as a little (B)Bday treat, so this season is sure to get messy!
Which Past Contestants Are Back For Big Brother 2022?
10 past Big Brother Australia contestants are back for the show’s 2022 iteration.
The returning royalty is Anthony Drew and his former flame Tully Smyth, as well as Dave Graham, Estelle Landy and Layla Subritzky (yes, as in Oats A La Layla, Layla).
Former champions Reggie Bird, Tim Dormer and Trevor Butler are also back for a second stab at the crown.

The Big Brother Australia royalty are joined by 11 fresh faces this season.

Some of the new contenders already have links to the reality TV world, including Aleisha, who is Survivor star Jordie Hansen‘s ex-girlfriend, and Melanie, who is friends with MAFS‘ Jaimie Gardner.
Jaycee also has quite the profile already. The 26-year-old is a rapper, musician and TikTok star.
What Kind Of Challenges Are Featured On Big Brother Australia 2022?
Several new features have been added to the Big Brother universe for 2022.
Notably, the all-seeing eye has introduced a Head of House, a contestant who is voted by their peers to hold unprecedented power and gain immunity from eviction. The HoH will also get a unique strategic power each week.
Also, for the first time housemates will be given the opportunity to save themselves leading up to the final eviction week by competing in intense physical challenges.
BBAU 2022 also sees the introduction of themed weeks, including Battle Week, Party Week and Temptation Week. Sounds spicy!
Once again, house nominations and nomination challenges, as well as secret missions, are resident features of the show.
There Is a New Big Brother House
Big Brother Australia 2022 not only has a brand-spanking-new house but a brand-spanking-new location where it was filmed!
Previous seasons saw the complex built in Sydney Harbour’s North Head; however, this time around, the custom-built home is located in Sydney’s Olympic Park in the infamous White Pavillion.
The Big Brother Australia 2022 house is once again comprised of two bedrooms and an open kitchen layout with combined living and dining areas.
As with every year, there are secret rooms including the mainframe, the sewer and two mystery rooms.
There’s also a new treehouse, which is a Zen chill-out space for the housemates to grab some downtime, and a select few housemates will also get exclusive access to a brand-new upstairs luxury suite.
When and Where to Watch Big Brother Australia 2022
Premiering on Monday, May 9, all of the Big Brother Australia 2022 drama will be available to watch on Seven and 7plus.
