If it weren’t for Big Brother Australia 2022, new contender Lara Kamper may not be in the healthy condition she is today.

The long-running reality series saved the 52-year-old’s life. No, literally — if she hadn’t been cast, she may never have discovered that she had pre-cancer cells in her cervix.

The shock news surfaced following routine medical tests that all potential housemates are required to undertake. Since the discovery, the hairdresser has had a small operation and she’s back to being fighting fit.

However, this wasn’t the single grandmother’s first run-in with a medical diagnosis.

At just 24-years-old, the Big Brother housemate was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

The latter, Lara sees as a challenge in the house, as she struggles with people “touching things of [hers]”.

Those diagnosed with OCD often have a tendency to exhibit excessive orderliness, perfectionism, and intense attention to detail.

Big Brother‘s Lara Is a Body Building Champion

After her marriage broke down when she was 40-years-old, Lara took part in a “shortclass” bodybuilding competition.

“I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it,” she said. “I wanted to prove that I could do this, even though I was told I couldn’t.”

Despite the fact that it “took heaps of discipline”, Lara went on to win the competition, as well as the Overall Champion Award.

In competing on Big Brother, the active housemate is showing Australia that older women are still strong and capable. Oh, and they can definitely keep up with the youngins in both physical and mental challenges, too!

A bundle of energy, Lara knows that BBAU is her time to shine and “live out her adult life on her own terms”.
