Former The Bachelorette Australia Georgia Love has finally spoken out after copping backlash for a string of controversial Instagram posts over the last year.

In an interview with Stellar Magazine, the 33-year-old spoke about how she has been impacted by the public’s criticism of her.

“People need to be kinder. And that includes me,” she said. “Reading anonymous people’s nasty words wasn’t going to help anything.”

She added that she feels as though nobody is safe in today’s culture full of “angry and unforgiving” people.

“Everyone expects everyone to do everything right all the time… I feel like anyone with any kind of profile is just sitting in wait until someone finds something that they’ve done wrong.”

The Bachelorette alum voiced that people “should be able to say sorry, show they are sorry, and move on. The way the world is at the moment isn’t allowing that to happen.

“If we have a world where nobody is making any mistakes, then show me behind the curtain… because that’s just not possible.”

“The past two years have been so hard for so many people, and I think the one thing I’m disappointed with is that people seem to have lost their empathy and understanding of people being humans,” she said.

What Controversies Has Georgia Love Been Involved In?

In the interview, Georgia is referencing the fallout primarily from two major incidents.

Georgia and her husband Lee Elliot faced backlash in March 2022 after arriving in the autocratic regime of Saudi Arabia.

The reality stars had been posting now-deleted photos from their respective Instagram accounts, causing fans of the pair to question their holiday.

The couple wasn’t paid directly for attending the trip, on which they were joined by other influencers around the globe. However, according to the Herald Sun, Saudi Arabian tourism approached Georgia and was “footing the bill for all airfares, accommodation and expenses”.

Fans were quick to criticise the couple, calling their vacation “immoral”.

Prior to that, in September 2021, Georgia shared a video on Instagram of a cat sitting behind the glass doors of an Asian restaurant, with text asking if the cat was a shop attendant or lunch and the backlash was fast and furious.

As a result of the backlash, Georgia lost her on-air position at Channel 7 and was dropped by several brands that she endorsed.
