Professional surfer Koby Abberton opened up about the long-lasting pain he has endured following an injury on SAS Australia in 2021.

The 43-year-old took on the infamous SAS Special Forces course last year but was forced to voluntarily withdraw after a back injury flared up.

His exit came as a shock to viewers as the surfer had maintained a tough facade throughout the show. However, his decision to quit may have come too late.

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, Koby revealed he has been in “constant pain” ever since appearing on SAS and has even been forced to quit his job as a surf instructor.

The infamous Bra Boy confessed that this injury is not the same one he struggled with prior to SAS Australia, however, has come as a result of the training course.

“I did have a previous back injury from five years ago but this is a new injury,” he said, adding: “It wouldn’t have happened if not for the show.”

He noted that Channel Seven, who produce SAS Australia, have “tried to help”, but the injury is “in the hands of the insurance company” covering the incident.

Along with being unable to teach surf lessons, Koby is also no longer fit to surf himself.

As someone who has been a life-long surfer, the father-of-one expressed the impact that being out of the water has had on his life.

“Surfing controls my mental health, the way I am around my family,” he said. “It’s a big thing for me.”

Koby Abberton Was at the Centre of Controversy During His Time on SAS Australia

Whilst his shock exit from SAS Australia made waves in the media and online, it was not the first time Koby found himself in controversy during the show.

Only weeks into the course, viewers of the show slammed the Bra Boy on social media after he was not only caught cheating during a challenge but then lying about it too!

However, he addressed the incident on his Instagram page as the episode in question aired. Koby declared that he is neither of those things and what he saw on TV isn’t actually how it went down IRL! Juicy!

“I just wanted to address the cheating scandal… First and foremost this is TV, guys. It wasn’t like that,” he said in the video. “How it happened was, we did a fitness test… On the second set, I was supposed to do 30 push-ups and only done 16.”

“I was tired and exhausted and miscounted, it was as simple as that,” he maintained.

“If I cheated, I personally wouldn’t have cheated with push-ups. I would of [sic] cheated on burpees 100%,” he joked.

As someone who despises burpees more than anything else on this planet, that is cheating I could understand!
