Married at First Sight Australia expert Mel Schilling has called out supermodel Elle Macpherson for her troubling messaging about cancer treatment.
The relationship expert took to Instagram on December 20 to reveal she’d been diagnosed with colon cancer after experiencing “severe stomach cramps” while filming MAFS in 2023.
She’s since undergone six months of chemotherapy. And now, she’s speaking out against Elle, who claimed she beat breast cancer by taking a “holistic” approach to treatment.
“I’m having some thoughts about Elle and the interviews she is doing lately, as a relatively new member of the cancer community and as someone who has just completed six months of chemo,” Mel said in an Instagram Reel on September 5.
“Elle revealed several years ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and saw more than 32 doctors, who advised her to have a combination of chemo, radio and hormone therapy.
“She chose not to do that and chose a more holistic wellness approach, which included things like prayer, meditation and so on.”

The 52-year-old expressed that she takes issue with the model, 60, promoting an alternative medicine approach to cancer treatment rather than a proven medical approach. Mainly due to the fact it could encourage others to do the same.
“I have a problem with Elle Macpherson as a high-profile role model, a woman we aspire to, who is selling products,” Mel explained.
“So, for me, this message she is peddling is plagued with judgement, arrogance, superiority and privilege. It concerns me.”
The mum-of-one concluded her Reel by urging Elle to be more cautious about the message she imparts to “vulnerable” cancer patients.
“My greatest concern is people will listen to her and then choose not to take the medical route and could be in danger.” Well said!
Mel’s criticism comes as Elle’s new memoir, Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself, delved into her choice to go against the advice of doctors.
