Married at First Sight Australia expert Mel Schilling has revealed why she was MIA when the 2025 season started filming.
The highly anticipated 12th season of the marriage experiment kicked off filming in late July.
However, fans became worried that Mel — who is undergoing chemotherapy following a colon cancer diagnosis — wasn’t returning to the show following rumours she was absent when cameras started rolling.

Thankfully, Mel has since confirmed that she will appear on MAFS 2025, posting on Instagram that her delay in joining the show was due to her treatment.
Sharing a snap of herself alongside husband Gareth Brisbane and daughter Maddie, the expert penned: “Chemo done, Australia here we come #MAFSAUSSEASON12.”
Mel announced in December that she was diagnosed with cancer after experiencing “severe stomach cramps” whilst filming MAFS in 2023.
She’s continued to detail her experience on social media, most recently revealing that chemotherapy has left her “shattered” and “exhausted”.
However, sources say MAFS producers have been “nothing but supportive” during her cancer battle,
One insider told Daily Mail that “the Married at First Sight producers have gone above and beyond to ensure she has all the support she needs.”
“They’ve been very accommodating with her schedule, allowing her to zoom into meetings from London to get to know the participants.”
