Married at First Sight Australia expert Mel Schilling has shared a health update amid her battle with cancer.

Mel took to Instagram on December 20 to reveal she’d been diagnosed with colon cancer after experiencing “severe stomach cramps” whilst filming MAFS.

Speaking to Heart Breakfast on March 19, the 51-year-old revealed she was “doing well”.

“This is currently a week off in my chemo cycles, which is why I’ve got quite a lot of energy today,” she told hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden.

Mel added: “I’ve learned there are a lot of different types of chemo. The type of chemo that I have doesn’t make me sick. It’s not going to make me lose my hair.”

However, the Married at First Sight expert explained that she had other side effects to the cancer treatment, such as “tingly fingers” and “sensitivity to the cold”

“I have to wear gloves a lot. And [I’m] just a little bit tired. [But] I’m doing well.” And we’re so happy to hear it!

Speaking to Yahoo! Lifestyle ahead of MAFS 2024‘s January 29 premiere, the long-time expert said she originally thought her pain was “jet lag” while filming the show in late 2023.

“At the reunion dinner party, I was doubled over in pain, and then during the whole reunion shoot, I was just trying to smile through the pain and just get through it,” she explained.

“I didn’t know what it was, I thought it was jet lag, but I really did. I just thought, I’m working too hard, it’s the travel, I’m just not taking care of myself.”

She added: “I really didn’t think it was anything else.”
