Married at First Sight Australia expert John Aiken has paid tribute to his co-star, Mel Schilling, after her recent cancer diagnosis.
Mel took to Instagram in the early hours of December 20 to reveal to her followers that she was recently diagnosed with colon cancer after experiencing “severe stomach cramps”.
Now, John has shared his own post to show his support for his fellow MAFS expert.
“Sending love and prayers to [Mel],” he penned alongside a series of photos of the pair.
“Thinking of you and the fight ahead. We’re all in your corner.”
John’s post follows Mel revealing she’ll spend Christmas Day in hospital as she recovers from surgery.
“[On December 21] I’m checking into the hospital to have an operation to remove a 5cm tumour in my colon, a tumour that had it gone undetected for much longer would have killed me,” she wrote online.
“Despite this, I feel incredibly blessed that it’s a cancer that is relatively easy to eradicate, I’m expected to make a full recovery though it’s a rough road ahead.”
She added: “It will be so tough to spend Xmas Day in the hospital instead of being surrounded by family but getting rid of Terry (what I’ve named my tumour) will be the best present of all.”
The MAFS expert concluded her post by expressing that “if something doesn’t feel right, please don’t ignore it”.
“If you don’t think the answers you have got are right, keep going until you do, it might just save your life.”
