Fans can expect a major change within the Australian Survivor 2024 cast, which reportedly “even shocked host” Jonathan LaPaglia.
The worldwide hit survival series returns to Channel 10 on January 29 with an all-new theme of Titans V Rebels and to say we’re KEEN is an understatement.
According to the network, the 12-person Titan team is comprised of “head honchos” and “over-achievers”. Meanwhile, the Rebels are “mavericks” who “don’t play by the rules”.
Australian Survivor is facing a huge shake-up in 2024
However, according to Yahoo! Lifestyle, an insider has dished that the show’s casting has faced a shake-up in 2024.
“The producers of the show are promising a dynamic cast and plenty of surprises which even shocked host JLP during filming,” a production source told the outlet.
“Australian Survivor has created a name for itself as the most ruthless reality show on television, but don’t expect another King George this season.”
Of course, “King George” refers to George Maldenov, the two-time Australian Survivor star who’s heralded as one of the best players of all time despite never winning the show.
Why Australian Survivor producers steered away from casting another King George
While George’s gameplay makes for epic TV, Yahoo! Lifestyle‘s source said producers steered clear of casting “characters” fans have seen on the show before.
“There is a lot of competition amongst the producers around the world to find the most bonkers player and while George is probably the most recognisable Australian castaway, we want to find even bigger personalities and players who will shock and surprise viewers in different ways,” the insider explained
“Australian Survivor works best when viewers don’t know what will happen next, so unpredictable personality types is what we go for.”
In fact, they were so against recruiting a castaway like George that casting producers immediately vetoed applicants who described themselves as “the new George”.
“We got that a lot, and it was the opposite of what we were looking for,” the insider said. “Sure, we can’t help some contestants studying past players, but if we see too much of the same gameplay, we know our viewers will be disappointed.
“Keeping the show fresh is a priority, and we want Australian Survivor around for many more years to come.”
