A TikToker has revealed the crazy Married at First Sight Australia casting process after “almost” appearing as one of the brides in the upcoming 2024 season.

On January 19, user @juliasingsmyths2 explained that she applied for the marriage experiment in February 2023 after her followers suggested she do so after she shared a series of funny dating stories online.

“I’ve met the love of my life, so I’m not too concerned about spilling the tea, because I know I’ll never go on [MAFS],” Julia dished. “But boy was it a ride.” And we’re buckling up!

Julia shared that the application process was very “long” with “lots of questions”. Despite not expecting to hear back from her application, a MAFS producer contacted her the following morning to set up an interview.

She then learned the process would go from February to September, just before the weddings were filmed.

“There were a lot of interviews. All of them were with different producers and all of them were recorded, except for one with a publicist,” she recalled.

“But that was not the only thing I had to do. I had to do a full police check, citizenship test, etc. But they also make you do an entire medical exam to make sure you are mentally and physically fit to participate in the show.”

Julia details the one thing that ‘SHOCKED’ her during the Married at First Sight application process

One thing that “shocked” Julia was that she was “required to do every single STI check”. However, she joked that the only thing she learned from the tests was that she’s low in iron.

“With this medical exam, you had to do a bunch of mobility tests,” she continued.

“The funniest one was called a duck walk, where you crouch down and walk,” she laughed, comparing it to the walk queens do on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

Julia then revealed that she went to a “random” doctor for the physical exam and he “didn’t actually make [her] do any of those things”.

“He was like, ‘Oh, this is for a TV show. I don’t watch TV,’ and then continued to tick off everything without making me do it,” she said.

Julia says Married at First Sight producers started ‘putting words in her mouth’ during the interview process

Julia then revealed that the interviews were fully recorded, making it easy for producers to “put words in her mouth”.

“On reality TV, where producers try to… make you say things on camera, that started in the interview process,” she said.

The TikToker claimed that she would’ve received a villain edit on the show because they tried to make her appear like she thought she was smarter than the other brides and grooms.

“I had producers say stuff like: ‘Now Julia, you have three university degrees and you speak five languages. Are you sure you’re going to find your intellectual equal on this show?’

“‘When you’re on the show, and you meet the other couples, you know that you’re going to be the smartest person in the room, right? Including the men. But the other girls, they’re going to be hairdressers and makeup artists. Do you think you’re going to be able to make friends with girls like that?'” Yikes…

At the time, Julia responded: “I love the girls. Of course, I’m going to be friends with them. I have many interests outside of academia. I’m sure I’m gonna have lots in common with the other girls.”

However, the producers continued to prod her to try and make her admit that she’d be smarter than “everyone else on the show” and that “no man would be good enough for [her]”.

“All of this was recorded and I didn’t want to give them any opportunity to make me the villain,” she added.

Fans react to the INTENSE Married at First Sight Australia application process

Fans flocked to the comment section, with many stating that Julia “dodged a bullet” by not appearing on MAFS.

“You dodged a bullet. MAFS is completely unethical in how they edit and manipulate people,” one user wrote, whilst another claimed: “As much as I love the show, they put their participants through hell and ruin their reputations.”

Meanwhile, a third added: “You were too smart for producers or too good to be boxed into one type of trope so I think you dodged a bullet because MAFS seems brutal”.

A fourth user savagely commented: “Ironic they test your mental stability, but make you mentally unstable from the get-go.” Yikes!

Another claimed that the show was “designed for gender wars” and it had “nothing to do with finding love”.

“UGH! Talk about promoting the patriarchal gender binary stereotypes. No wonder I cannot stand this show,” a sixth person added.

And remind us to never apply…
