A production source from The Bachelors Australia 2023 has revealed Channel Ten made a huge mistake airing the newest season in December.

After The Bachelors 2023 returned dismal ratings, viewers were a smidge confused when the network announced a second multi-lead season to air the same year, beginning on December 3.

To absolutely no one’s surprise, it premiered to the franchise’s lowest-ever ratings, and it turns out timing’s everything!

According to a Channel Ten insider, audiences aren’t keen on watching a series filmed in winter as Australian summer heats up.

“Romantic winter dates under umbrellas with scarves and jumpers look ridiculous when prime-time TV is competing with beaches, bars and summer sports activities,” they confessed to Yahoo! Lifestyle.

“I don’t think the producers felt like they were making this program for a summer time slot.”

The source added: “The last thing anyone wants to see at the moment is winter.”

Despite the scheduling faux pas, they said the latest season is “fantastic”.

“It is actually the best reality TV show we have seen in a while and probably the best season of The Bachelor yet,” they add. “It’s just disappointing that it has been thrown away in summer.”

The Bachelors Australia 2023 producers think the new season is ‘hitting its mark’

Another insider said it was “obvious” to producers that The Bachelors was “hitting its mark” when the latest season was filmed in June.

“Everyone working on the series knew it was leaps and bounds ahead of the first attempt of The Bachelors, which had already screened in January,” they said.

The new instalment has seemingly returned to its romantic roots, with fans comparing it to the swoony Netflix series Bridgerton.

“You could tell that someone had done their homework and the essence of this program had not only been captured with a compelling story but executed in a way that brought the franchise back to the centre of what makes this show event TV,” one TV executive told Yahoo! Lifestyle.

“The show needs to be aspirational. You need to wish you were on the dates and have running commentary in your head on how you would do it differently.”
