Fans have called for Love Island Australia to represent contestants with diverse sexualities and we’re on board with this!

On November 22, a disgruntled viewer took to Reddit to air their concerns.

“We need more bi[sexual] dudes,” they wrote.

However, instead of being tokenistic, the user called for Love Island to be more authentic about casting LGBTIQ+ contestants.

“Australia often pushes LGBT people in their dating media as if they’re a magic unicorn that has never been seen before. And that the show is ‘iconic’ for having them,” they added.

“I would adore more [representation] of dudes who are simply attracted to both men and women while [the show] treats them as just another member of the game.” Amen!

Has Love Island Australia cast bisexual contestants in the past?

Other than Phoebe Thompson and Cassie Lansdell in Season Two, representation of bisexuality has been scarce on the hit dating show.

Love Island has cast a few sexually fluid female contestants, including 2022’s Holly-Oakes Ferguson and Vakoo Kauapirura and 2021 star Emily Ward, who came out as bisexual after her stint on the show.

In posts that have since been deleted, 2018 contestant Justin Lacko also came out as bisexual on Instagram in 2020.

However, the show is yet to feature any openly bisexual men.

If you ask us, it’d be nice to see more sexually fluid cast members on the show. And as we’ve seen from The Bachelorette, diverse casts can REALLY bring the drama. Just saying!
