Insiders have revealed why The Block 2023‘s Kristy and Brett Beams‘ auction fell flat, notably after Adrian Portelli failed to bid.
The renovation series’ November 5 finale was bittersweet, with Steph and Gian Ottavio taking home $1.75 million in winnings, while Kristy and Brett pocketed just $65,000.
Kirsty and Brett have since put their auctioneer on blast, saying he “sh*t the bed”.
Meanwhile, fans have been left wondering why the billionaire founder of LMCT+ didn’t place a bid despite naming House Three his favourite at the Domain Listings evening.
Talking to Yahoo! Lifestyle, an insider said Adrian was overheard claiming he would never bid on Kristy and Brett’s house due to the public’s perception of the couple.
ICYMI: the duo have been roasted to the high heavens this season for “bullying” and being self-confessed pot-stirrers.
“People were loudly and openly discussing why he was not bidding, as the auction dragged on for over 20 minutes longer than the first two auctions,” the source said.
“The overall opinion of the producers was that personalities and behaviour has never affected the auction results. However, Adrian revealing this to [fellow bidder] Danny Wallis‘ assistant after House Three’s auction was pretty telling.”

Adrian reportedly denied saying he had no plans to bid on House Three.
Yahoo! Lifestyle‘s source said he told them he opted not to buy all of The Block 2023 houses because he was cautious of receiving backlash from viewers after hiking up the price on Omar Slaimankhel and Oz Said‘s property last year.
The Block executive producer Julian Cress refused to comment on rumours surrounding auction results.
“If you overheard something in the street, I don’t want to make a comment on that,” he told the insider. Juicy!
On the November 4 auction day (which aired the following night), Adrian dropped a total of $12.4 million after purchasing both Steph and Gian, Kyle and Leslie and Eliza and Liberty Paschke’s homes.
