Insiders have revealed the reason behind Married at First Sight Australia 2023‘s Melinda Willis and Layton Mills‘ shock split in October.
ICYMI: The couple put out identical statements on their Instagram Story on October 11 to reveal they were no longer together.
“We still care very deeply for each other and this doesn’t mean our lives can’t come back together, but as of now, we think this decision is for the best,” they wrote at the time.
However, a friend of the couple has since claimed that a reunion between Melinda and Layton was “unlikely”.
“Their post didn’t really come as a surprise, it felt like a long time coming,” they told Yahoo! Lifestyle.
“Things slowly fizzled out after the show due to the [long] distance and even when he moved up [to Queensland], it wasn’t the same as when they were on the show in the bubble.”
Layton moved to the Sunshine State in July, but he didn’t move in with Melinda in Brisbane.
“They’re both super busy running their own businesses and barely saw each other,” the source added.
Their relationship breakdown comes after Melinda revealed on Yvie Jones‘ Two Girls, One Pod podcast that Layton found it “hard” to express his love.
“Really, really hard,” she said. “I wasn’t [accepting of that] at first, I think he was just always fearful of commitment and a forever thing.”
She also said he was yet to verbalise that he loved her, only revealing the heartfelt confession “in a love letter”.
