Channel Nine has denied that The Block will change production companies following fan complaints over the drama-heavy season.

Daily Mail Australia reported that a production insider told the outlet that a change could be on the horizon to freshen up the show’s 20th season.

The Block could crumble if [producers] and the team behind the show don’t make some major changes,” the source said.

The feud between Leah and Ash Milton and former besties Kristy and Brett Beams has pulled focus from the renovation element of The Block — something the source says was a direct result of producers’ casting choices.

“I don’t think they quite expected as much conflict as they got but they did cast competitive women, around the same age, who have a lack of self-awareness and would not hold back on opinions,” they explained.

However, the outlet alleged the drama and resulting backlash didn’t come as a surprise to producers.

“They are doing exactly what they were cast to do and that really isn’t their fault. If you put all the ingredients into the mix you can hardly get mad when the cake rises,” they said.

“Channel Nine would be stupid to pull the show but maybe it is time it gets some fresh eyes on it.”

What did Channel Nine say about the rumours about The Block changing production companies?

Daily Mail Australia said when contacted for comment, a Channel Nine representative dismissed the claims.

They also insisted that there are “no changes to the production company”, which has been Cavalier Productions since 2012.

Rumours of a switch-up behind the scenes of The Block comes after countless fans reported the series to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) for displaying “bullying” and “harassment”.

One spokesperson told The Australian: “The majority of the inquiries [are] related to allegations of bullying, harassment and promotion of anti-social behaviour between contestants.”

Nine has 60 days to respond to the complaints.
