Radio host Kyle Sandilands has defended The Voice coach Jason Derulo after he was accused of sexual harassment by Emaza Gibson, who was signed to his record label.

During the Kyle & Jackie O show on October 9, Kyle said fans shouldn’t “jump to conclusions” due to the consequences that emerge for those who are wrongly accused.

“Society makes us feel that we should listen to anyone who claims to be a victim. I agree that we should listen to everyone’s side of the story, but it’s also so easy to point the finger at someone,” the problematic radio personality started.

“Because if it’s not true, for example, what happens? Nothing, she gets no cash and it just drifts away, but he’s got that stain on him.”

He added: “You don’t want to believe someone because [they’re] famous and [the other person isn’t]. That’s not right either. It’s just an ugly situation.”

The 52-year-old then explained that his Australian Idol co-stars found it difficult to believe the allegations as they all vouched for Jason’s character.

Co-host Jackie O Henderson chimed in, stating that sexual assault incidents “shouldn’t be allowed to be reported in the media” until someone’s been found guilty.

“The problem is that we read a headline… [it] sounds bad, Jason Derulo [and] sexual harassment. But when you actually read into the details of it… it’s less of a thing,” she justified.

She also said she was yet to take a stance as Emaza’s claims were missing the “specifics”.

What claims have been made about The Voice’s Jason Derulo?

In 2021, Jason promised Emaza a record deal. However, according to NBC, the aspiring singer realised there were “strings” and “struggles” attached, leading her to file a lawsuit on October 5 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

She alleged that the Whatcha Say singer “turned cold after she rejected his sexual advances and repeated invitations to dine and drink alcohol and that he eventually dropped her deal altogether.”

“It’s very heartbreaking,” Emaza told NBC. “I have anxiety; I’m traumatised. I’ve dealt with inhumane work situations. I’m at this point where I’m back to zero and I have nothing.”

On October 5, Jason took to Instagram to address the “defamatory claims”.

“I stand against all forms of harassment and I remain supportive of anybody following their dreams,” the 34-year-old told his followers.

“I’ve always strived to live my life in a positively impactful way, and that’s why I sit here before you deeply offended, by these defamatory claims. God bless.”
