Global chart-topping sensation Jason Derulo has been announced as the newest judge on The Voice Australia 2023, replacing OG judge Keith Urban.

The R&B and hip-hop singer-songwriter will take his place on a spinning red chair alongside returning judges Rita Ora, Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian. Host Sonia Kruger is also set to return to the program which is slated to air later this year.

The singing competition isn’t the 33-year-old Los Angeles-based hitmaker’s first foray into judging.

He had a brief stint on Ten’s Everybody Dance Now, which was axed in 2012 after 4 episodes.

“I’ve always loved The Voice and Australia happens to be one of my favourite places in the world,” Jason, who boasts more than 57 million TikTok followers and has sold more than 250 million singles worldwide, said in a statement.

“I can’t wait to hear all the amazing talent down under!”

Seven’s Chief Content Officer, Entertainment Programming, Angus Ross, said: “The Voice is one of the biggest entertainment brands globally and in Australia, and we are very excited to welcome one of the biggest stars in the world into the Seven family and to The Voice Australia.

“Jason is a sensational addition to our line-up of superstar coaches Jess, Rita and Guy and we can’t wait to see who they turn their iconic red chairs for this season.”

Why Keith Urban quit The Voice Australia

Jason will be replacing Keith who confirmed he was stepping away from his role as a judge last year to go on tour around the United States and Canada.

“I feel very close to everybody on the set, and hopefully, the door can stay open because I would jump back in a heartbeat,” Keith told The Daily Telegraph on October 8.

But he hasn’t ruled out being part of the judging panel on another iteration of the show.

“Much like The Voice in America, ‘x’ amount of coaches come and go depending [on] their schedules. I would love to hope that The Voice might afford me that opportunity as well,” he added.

The Voice Australia first aired in 2012, with Delta Goodrem, Joel Madden, Seal and Keith as the inaugural judges.

Since then a slew of names have sat in the red chairs, including Ricky Martin, Kylie Minogue, will.i.am, Benji Madden, Jessie J, Ronan Keating, Kelly Rowland, Boy George and Joe Jonas.
