Gerry Turner, 71, has been announced as the first-ever lead of The Golden Bachelor and we can’t wait to watch his love story unfold!
ICYMI: American TV network ABC has created a version of The Bachelor for single seniors after a second shot at love.
On July 16, the official The Golden Bachelor Instagram account shared an adorable video of the leading man who’s set to steal some hearts.
Gerry, who describes himself as “71 years young”, is a retired restauranteur from Indiana.
The father-of-two was married to his high-school sweetheart, Toni, for 43 years before she sadly passed away.
However, despite enduring the deepest heartbreak imaginable, Gerry believes that it’s “never too late to fall in love again,” and our hearts are melting!
Gerry said he’s looking for someone who’s “high energy” and competitive. He’s also looking for a sporty partner who “maybe plays pickleball [or] golf”.
And the best part? He’s admitted that he’s open to getting married again, so we’re hoping he proposes on the show!

Fans flocked to the comments section on the show’s Instagram account to express their thoughts about Gerry.
“Why is he hotter than any Bachelor in YEARS,” one wrote, whilst another joked: “Gerry can get it!”
Another person commented that Gerry didn’t “look a day over 50”, whilst a third even asked for his skincare routine!
However, some fans were slightly disappointed about the casting decision, as one user said: “Thought we were getting a cute little old person, like a grandpa John type. I don’t really care about this dude.”
Now, lots of people liked the comment, so it looks like viewers are a tad divided about the casting decision.
But if you ask us, we think this is going to be epic!
What else do we know about The Golden Bachelor?
In a synopsis, ABC revealed that The Golden Bachelor will showcase a “whole new kind of love story”.
Alongside Gerry, there’ll be a cast of ladies who’ve had a “lifetime of experience, living through love, loss and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities”.
“In the end, will our Golden man turn the page to start a new chapter with the woman of his dreams?” the synopsis teased. And we kinda love this!
The Golden Bachelor has been in the works for quite some time now. ABC posted their first casting call for singles over 65 back in early 2020, and the show is finally seeing the light of day.
And for the first time ever, we have a feeling people won’t be in it for a blue tick but hey, never say never!
