MasterChef Australia has long been a fan-fave reality show, but its 2023 season has left its viewers “underwhelmed”.

The 15th season was already pushed back and re-edited following the death of beloved judge Jock Zonfrillo.

However, the show — which was originally labelled Secrets & Surprises — has failed to live up to the hype synonymous with the franchise.

One Reddit user took to the forum site to voice their disappointment over MasterChef‘s latest iteration, saying a “high standard” just isn’t evident on-screen.

“Can Season 15 keep up with the high standard from the past few years?” they penned. “We’re slightly underwhelmed by the dishes cooked this year so far.

“Anyone else feel the same?”

Turns out, it’s a common feeling among viewers.

“Yes… Can’t put my finger on why exactly but when I think back to Depinder [Chhipper], Kishwar [Chowdhury], Pete [Campbell], Tommy [Pham], Justin [Narayan] all bringing their insane food week after week, I can’t help feeling a little disappointed this year,” one agreed.

Noting that there’s still potential for the show to pull up its socks, the user said the feeling is “just not quite there”.

What else are people saying about MasterChef Australia 2023?

Another MasterChef fan theorised that they’ve purposely dropped the quality of contestants.

“It’s almost like they tried to pull back to having actual home cooks on the show but didn’t tell the audience,” they wrote. “So we’re expecting to see Reynold [Poernomo] tier desserts and instead we’re sitting at La Porchetta watching the pasta roll in.” LOL!

Another said the cast isn’t being given an opportunity to grow their skillset in the competition.

“Could it be that with less participants at the start, and less masterclasses, they have less opportunities to progress?” the user questioned. “Thus, level as in the initial weeks, but we are already down to the final 10…”

This isn’t the first time viewers have taken issue with the current season of MasterChef.

In May, eagle-eyed fans called the series out for being “unhygienic”.

“Please stop scratching your hair or wiping your faces etc when cooking!” the viewer wrote. “Love this show and all contestants, but think while [you’re] cooking.”

“I agree it is very unhygienic,” another added.

Several other fans agreed, saying they’ve noticed it quite often this season. Ick!
