The Bachelor Australia 2019‘s Monique Morley has revealed the scary moment she was left “practically paralysed” amid a suspected drink-spiking incident overseas.

Monique — best known for the “dog c*nt” saga during Matt Agnew‘s Bachie season — told Yahoo! Lifestyle she’d been “targeted” at a bar in the Caribbean.

According to the 30-year-old, a local man was behaving oddly and made a point of passing close by Monique and her friend, even though the bar was empty.

“My drink had only just been served, and when I turned back to drink it, I started to feel really weird – mostly in my legs,” she recalled.

She soon realised she had been “spiked” after her friend said she didn’t have similar symptoms to Monique.

“The drink was only left unattended for five seconds,” The Bachelor star added. “Everything then started going dizzy so I asked her to take me home and for her to drive.

“We had to keep stopping so I could throw up, my whole body felt weird and I couldn’t [sic] hardly feel my legs.”

Once they’d returned, Monique was “practically paralysed: and “violently sick for hours”.

“I’m not sure why I was targeted. Maybe for my handbag and phone, I’m not sure. It’s just lucky I figured it out early,” she said.

In 2022, fellow The Bachelor alum Florence Moerenhout detailed a similar experience, during which she was hospitalised after having her drink spiked.

The Bachelor‘s Monique Morley issues warning to overseas travellers

Looking back on the incident, Monique issued a warning to others hoping to travel overseas.

“With holidays approaching, please can everyone be so so careful when out, especially when travelling and overseas,” she said.

“Watch your drinks and always have someone you trust around you.”

She added that people should “always listen to [their] gut and remove [them]selves from situations” that feel uncomfortable.

The fashion designer’s Instagram followers quickly rallied behind her on a recent post, which read: “You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.”

Replying to a fan who asked whether she was “fully recovered”, Monique said, “Unfortunately not”.

“It’s the scariest thing but you can’t let the what if stop you,” she penned. “I have panics all the time but meditate myself out of it eventually

“You’re stronger than you think.”
