You may have seen a number of contestants passing around a ‘stick’ on Married at First Sight Australia 2023, particularly, during the Couple’s Retreat.
Many viewers noticed the bizarre gesture during the March 6 and 7 episodes and were left wondering what the hell it was that everyone was holding.
Well, we’ve got answers for you and it’s as silly as you’d expect it to be.
Many fans took to Twitter this week, asking whether Harrison Boon was holding a “lipgloss” or a “vape”.
One So Dramatic! Facebook group member even speculated it might be a concealer “to hide [Harrison’s] real personality.” Fair assumption…
However, So Dramatic! can exclusively reveal that it is in fact a ‘talking stick’! Yes, like the ones we used in school to indicate who’s turn it was to speak because these contestants are literal children.
“It’s a lipgloss. There was too much interrupting so someone suggested that we bring out a talking stick haha,” one contestant exclusively revealed to So Dramatic!.
Adding: “No vaping allowed on TV. They tried to keep vapes out of the screen.”
Talking sticks are an ancient tool of Aboriginal democracy used by many tribes. The Talking Stick may be passed around a group, as multiple people speak in turn, or used only by leaders as a symbol of their authority and right to speak in public. The person holding the Talking Stick is the only one who speaks while everyone else listens with absolutely no interruption.
Well, it’s nice to know that these contestants can communicate effectively on their own! Not.
