Married at First Sight Australia 2023 has been packed full of surprises, but Claire Nomarhas being related to notorious convicted criminal Tasi Nomarhas may be the most surprising yet.

As reported in episode 261 of the So Dramatic! podcast, it turns out that the MAFS bride is the niece of Nomarhas, who was jailed for an assault in 2018 after horrifically bashing a woman in Thomastown, Victoria.

The story was widely reported on in the media at the time and Nomarhas became a well-known crime figure in Melbourne for the brutal attack which saw him earn the title of “rejected creep.”

Tasi is the brother of Claire’s dad Lee, who will be making an appearance on the show this week.

Sources close to Claire claim that she and her father have had “a very tumultuous relationship” and have “gone years at a time without speaking.”

“He wasn’t around much when she was growing up but they must have patched things up recently,” one family friend tells So Dramatic!.

The source went on to explain that the reality star “constantly has falling outs with her family” and over the years has gone between living with her mum and dad who are separated.

“At the moment she is not talking to her mum and sister, that’s why they weren’t at the wedding,” they explained. “Claire doesn’t get along with her mum’s new partner. They constantly have had issues.”

Who is Tasi Nomarhas?

Nomarhas brutally bashed his childhood mate after she rejected him, leaving her with depression, anxiety and needing plastic surgery.

He was charged with recklessly causing injury, property damage and dealing with the proceeds of crime. The 50-year-old pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years and six months in jail for the horrific attack.

Nomarhas punched his victim multiple times in the face before he strangled her until she dropped in and out of consciousness. He also screamed that he was going to kill her.

The victim was left with a fractured cheekbone, eye socket and sinus, lacerations and bruising to her throat and caused the loss of her sense of taste. She required surgery for the fractures and plastic surgery for the lacerations.

A victim impact statement said she had lived in fear since the attack and been diagnosed with depression, anxiety and PTSD.

Her sight and breathing were still impaired and she still got headaches from the blows to the head.

MAFS’ Claire condemned her uncle’s beahviour on Facebook

Claire took a firm stance against her uncle’s behaviour in 2022, commenting underneath a Facebook post he had made.

“Full of life and a good sense of humour,” Nomarhas commented on his own post.
